My love for beer started while living in the United Kingdom in the mid ’90s. Having come from a country which had two local lagers, one foreign lager and a couple stouts, it was a real eye-opener. I was exposed to a lot of different styles from Bitters to Pale Ales to Belgian Ales. My mind was blown when I first tasted a Leffe Blond on tap in Paris.
I then visited a Firkin Brewery Pub in London and the idea was born. I was going to learn to brew beer so that I didn’t have to live on the meager pickings when I moved back home to Trinidad. So a bucket fermenter, two corny kegs and some extract brews later my journey to my own brewery started.
My good friends suffered through those first few attempts until I started to get the process down and the quality improved. Then the first thing they asked when they walked through my front door was: “What’s on tap?”
Having moved back to Trinidad by the end of the ’90s and with two young daughters and one disastrous first attempt at brewing in the tropics without proper temperature control for the fermentation, along with getting my Software Development business up and running, brewing took a back seat for far too long.
But now I am back! I’ve been brewing regularly again for the last 5 years with proper temperature control and it’s time to get back to my initial idea of a brewery. I hope you’ll join the club!
